The Mission
(written by Charlotte Cosden – January, 1995)
The following is a revelation that the Lord gave me during my quiet time with Him. I hope that it blesses you just as it blessed me.
It doesn’t matter what we think that we should do, give or say. It does matter that we hear what God wants to do, give and say. When we’re in control, we forfeit the control of the Holy Spirit. We spiritually steal from one another, robbing blessings. At times, we deprive or hinder. We need to empty out of ourselves. The extra mile was good for awhile, but God is speaking to the church, and saying that we need to STOP COUNTING MILES and shoot for the finish line without checking our stop-watch along the way in order to see how much more we have to go. Run without looking back or from side to side to see where everyone else is, and oh!….the vision does not end there!
While we’re running, we’re carrying those who are weary, lonely, hurt and discouraged in our arms and on our back, until they’re able to run the race on their own. Each time our heart pumps, we can hear the heartbeat of Jesus. We can’t stop or burn out, because we’re running on His strength, motivated by His desire, and driven to keep on keeping on by His passion at all costs.
In the course of this magnificent journey, we’ll obey His voice; we’ll know when to stop and rest, and during that period of time, He will refresh and refill us with a drink from His hand of Grace, His mercy, His love, His power and purpose. Yes! His Grace will be sufficient for us!
Well, what about “our” plans? They somehow won’t matter anymore because we’ve focused on only “one” plan, and that’s “His” plan. Our prayer closet will grow deeper and wider and yet still only hold one plan…THE PLAN OF SALVATION !!! Our prayer closet won’t just be a stopping off place. During our run, it will go with us. We will dwell there. We will begin to feel the sun shining down on us, but we’ll come to recognize that just as God’s love is manifested in the beautiful trees that provide a covering of shade to block the rays of the burning sun, so is He protecting us under the “shadow” of the Almighty. (Ps.91) In order for there to be a “shadow”, there needs to be a “presence”. We will pause to drink from His springs of Living Water in His Word. On the road, there will be dead ends. Some of us will have to go back where we just came from and get new directions, and yes, there will be plenty of detours, as He sovereignly protects us. New seasons will also bring new people along our path. Things will begin to change. “We” will begin to change…never to be the same again. We will now see ourselves as vessels “for” honor, rather than vessels “of” honor. Even our vocabulary will be different. Words like engagements to opportunities; sacrifices changed to privileges. At times others will perceive you as having no personal needs of your own. Some may even be insensitive, but in reality, this is just another opportunity to “watch God provide”. The ‘co’ in co-laborer becomes illuminated.
Jesus had a oneness with the Father. His mind revealed what He spoke…His character, who He was…His heart, what He purposed and desired. That’s how He COMPLETED HIS MISSION. His last prayer before He was arrested was: “And the glory which Thou hast given Me, I have given to them: that they may be one, just as we are one; I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected in unity; that the world may know that Thou didst send Me, and didst love them, even as Thou didst love Me. As Thou didst send Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world”. (John 17)
And that’s how we’ll COMPLETE OUR MISSION.
